Recently I had to fill out a medical application that asked if I was SINGLE MARRIED DIVORCED WIDOWED (circle one). I hesitate on these questions because, yes I went through a DIVORCE but I\u2019m not going through it anymore, I was SINGLE prior to being MARRIED. Do I circle all three? Can I just go back to being SINGLE?
\nIf I circle SINGLE does that mean I\u2019ve never been MARRIED? What does that say about me? Why does it matter? Isn\u2019t it odd that in our culture it\u2019s better to be divorced than single when you get to Midlife? Does that mean I\u2019m not too bad, somebody wanted me? Or does that mean I was stupid and made a wrong choice?
\nWhat about my friends who are single and have not been married? A guy is a \u201cplayer\u201d while a girl, well \u201csomething\u2019s wrong with her\u201d. Quite frankly, I believe something different. The girl is smart, confident, independent and the guy doesn\u2019t have it all together to maintain a relationship! Don\u2019t you love double-standards!
\nNot all of us will find that ONE person we want to spend the rest of our lives with, have children and grow old with. That\u2019s okay, attitudes are trying to catch up with the times. We can have friends and family, have children as a single parent and grow old with our friends.
